Shaun Davies MP for Telford commented:

“I will never support merging Telford and Wrekin with Shropshire Council—it would mean higher council tax, parking charges, and losing control to Shropshire.  Meanwhile, the Conservatives have run Shropshire Council into the ground, leaving it on the brink of bankruptcy. The only thing keeping it afloat is the Tory leadership clinging on by their fingernails. The new Government is committed to shifting power and money out of Whitehall and into local communities. Telford’s success gives us real opportunities to explore devolution, and I am ready—as Team Telford—to ensure our residents and businesses reap the benefits. But whatever happens next, one thing is clear: Telford and Wrekin must remain a standalone council.”
