Shaun Davies, the Labour MP for Telford, has been actively involved in efforts to protect and enhance hospital services at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford since he was first elected to Telford & Wrekin Council in 2011. His work has been particularly focused on opposing the downgrading of the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department as part of the broader Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Transformation Programme, also known as Future Fit.
Despite the former Conservative government’s backing for the reorganisation, which includes a £312 million investment to centralise specialised emergency care at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and planned care at PRH, Shaun Davies MP has voiced strong concerns. He argues that these changes would leave Telford, a large town, without a fully functioning A&E, which he believes is crucial for the community.
Shaun has led marches with thousands of residents. Collected tens of thousands of signatures and delivered them to successive Conservative minsters. The Conservatives, prior to the July 2024 general election, pushed through plans to close the 24/7 A&E.
Shaun Davies has used his platform in the House of Commons to request meetings with health ministers to discuss the implications of the reorganisation and to advocate for the retention of comprehensive emergency services at PRH. He has emphasised the importance of having accessible healthcare services for his constituents and has pledged to continue fighting for the hospital services that the local community relies on.
