Boxing fans, residents and local businesses came together with Telford MP, Liam Davies’ sponsor, Shaun Davies, on Tuesday evening at The Brewery Inn, Coalport, for a special evening with the local boxing star. The event raised £500 for Lingen Davies Cancer Support while showing the community’s backing for Liam ahead of his next big fight – which included raising money for Liam to train as part of his summer camp.
As one of Liam’s sponsors, Shaun organised the evening in partnership with George and Ben and the team at The Brewery Inn to bring the community together in support of one of Telford’s most successful sporting figures as he continues preparations for his return to the ring.
The event gave supporters the opportunity to hear firsthand from Liam about his boxing journey, the defining moments of his career and the dedication required to compete at the highest level of the sport and was interviewed by Paul Shuttleworth.
Guests were given a behind-the-scenes insight into life as a professional boxer, from the intensity of training camps to the sacrifices made outside the ring, as Liam prepares for his next major fight which will be announced very soon.
The evening also led to £500 being donated to Lingen Davies Sunflower appeal – helping the organisation continue its vital work in raising money for Telford’s brand new cancer treatment centre.
Shaun Davies MP said: “I’m incredibly proud to be sponsoring Liam as he prepares for his next fight, which is now just around the corner. I wanted to bring together people from across Telford to show their support and give something back to him as he puts in the hard work and dedication behind the scenes during training camp.
Liam said: Big thanks to Shaun for putting on such a fantastic evening and for bringing everyone together to support me as one of my sponsors ahead of my next big fight. As someone who is Telford born and proud, it meant a lot to see so many people come out to support me – I’m right in the middle of a tough training camp, so it was great to take a break for the evening and give everyone an insight into the work that’s happening behind the scenes for me right now! We also raised a fantastic amount through the raffle for Lingen Davies Cancer Support, which made the evening even more special. A brilliant night for Telford, supporting local boxing and a fantastic charity. Thank you to everyone who came along—I really appreciate it.
Shaun added: “Liam is a fantastic ambassador for Telford and a real inspiration to so many young people through his commitment, professionalism and achievements. It was brilliant to see so many local people come together to get behind one of our own, while also raising £500 for such an important local charity. It was a fantastic evening that showcased the very best of our community.
The evening celebrated not only Liam’s achievements inside the ring but also the strength of community spirit in Telford, bringing together local businesses, boxing supporters and residents to support both a hometown sporting hero and a worthwhile cause.
The evening was the latest in a series of events hosted by “Telford Dinning Club” which was founded by Shaun Davies MP, which brings together people from across Telford and wider Shropshire to listen to interesting speakers at some of Telford best known venues, past events have been hosted at Restaurant 1840 and Mercure Hotel whilst raising money for good causes.
