Standing up for Telford

I’m fighting for the issues that matter most to residents of Telford. Including demanding better health services, safer streets, ways to help residents with the cost of living, fixing the foundations of thegfgf economy and getting our economy to grow, ensuring we are safe in an increasingly dangerous world, and protecting our planet from the threat of climate change.

In Parliament

As your MP, I’m standing up for Telford by representing our town in Parliament. I’ve been vocal on the issues that matter most here, from the massive delays in Shropshire’s justice system to the brave service of our Armed Forces and the needs of our veterans.

I was elected by my fellow MPs as a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee, where I question experts and relevant figures, including the Home Secretary and asylum accommodation providers like Serco in recent months, on a range of issues including crime, immigration and national security. You can read about the Committee’s recent publications and current inquiries here, and watch my contributions on my YouTube page.

Aside from the Select Committee, I’ve also campaigned on a number of specific issues, such as introducing a Long Service Medal for magistrates; an M54-M6 link, and a direct train service between Telford and London; and drastic improvements to Telford’s local healthcare service. My priority is to represent your priorities, so if you want to discuss policy issues or ask me to raise something on your behalf, please do get in touch.

I’m the Chair of the West Midlands All-Party Parliamentary Group, which seeks to unify MPs and leaders from our region and act as a single voice championing the many things the West Midlands does well, as well as the changes and support it needs from the Government to unlock its full potential. I also chair the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events, which advocates for the massive economic contribution that the business events sector provides to our economy, both nationally and in towns like Telford, which benefits from the Telford International Centre and the jobs, business and tourism it brings.

Visit me in Parliament

Since becoming Telford’s MP, I’ve welcomed dozens of constituents to Westminster, and I want to give everyone a chance to see and learn about our democracy. I can book free tours of Parliament and Big Ben for my constituents, as well as apply for tickets to Prime Minister’s Questions. If you would like to experience any of these, please feel free to contact me, and I will be happy to facilitate it.

I’m also happy to offer work experience to Telford young people, in either his Telford or Parliamentary office. If you would like to apply for work experience, please write to me outlining why you would like to work in my office and what you hope to learn from it, and I will consider each application individually. Please feel free to check out my work experience page to find out more.

Parliamentary Costs

Before I was elected, I was committed to publishing the full costs of being a Member of Parliament.  MPs’ costs are designed to fund the varied work they do to serve their constituents – from office costs to staff salaries and helping to cover the costs of living in two separate places.

You can view a full up-to-date breakdown of all my expenses since I became an MP in 2024, on the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority’s (IPSA’s) website.

IPSA periodically updates this information following their independent verification and scrutiny. IPSA provided the Office of Shaun Davies MP with the following budget for 2024/25:

STAFF BUDGET

The staffing budget is largely made up of payroll costs, which are paid directly to Shaun’s staff to assist him in carrying out his duties in Westminster and Telford. The budget covers all payroll costs (salaries, employers’ national insurance contributions and pension contributions).

Staffing costs account for approximately three-quarters of the total spend by an MP on average.

Team Telford, help Shaun Davies MP to carry out my Parliamentary duties in Westminster and are on hand to offer advice and assistance to constituents in Telford. It is important that, as your MP, Shaun takes up the issues that matter most to local residents and the team in both of offices assist in doing this.

CONSTITUENCY OFFICE BUDGET

Parliament covers the cost of running my constituency office, which includes equipment, rent, business rates, etc.

Having the office in the heart of Telford is extremely important so that constituents can approach me for advice or assistance. My office is staffed five days a week and regular appointments are offered at surgeries located in all market towns and public buildings across Telford.

LONDON ACCOMMODATION BUDGET

Shaun’s role as your MP requires him to be in Westminster for part of the week. He rents a flat in London and claims for essentials, including rent, Council Tax and utilities.

TELFORD ACCOMMODATION BUDGET

Shaun uses his salary as an MP to pay for all living costs at my home in Telford; there is no cost to the taxpayer.

TRAVEL BUDGET

Shaun travels between his constituency and the House of Commons. He is required to be in the House of Commons several days each week while Parliament is sitting to participate in debates, vote, and represent his constituents.

The Parliamentary timetable can be unpredictable meaning it would be short notice to book travel. Shaun will always endeavour to travel Standard Class and buy tickets as cheaply and far in advance as possible. Shaun will never claim more than an ‘anytime standard return’.

STAFF TRAVEL BUDGET

Staff sometimes travel across the country for work and training so that they can best help constituents who contact the office.

This information is correct when published and all expenses have been incurred wholly, exclusively and necessarily in the performance of the Parliamentary duties.
