Shaun Davies MP has welcomed the news that NHS waiting lists have fallen to their lowest level in three years, highlighting positive local figures that show a significant reduction, while stressing that challenges remain for patients in Telford.
- The latest data shows NHS waiting lists fell by more than 86,000 in November, marking the second biggest monthly drop in 15 years.
- Locally, waiting lists in the Telford area have now fallen by 13,942 since July 2024 – with SaTH also reporting the number of patients waiting for treatment has fallen by 30% in a year.
In addition, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) was recently recognised as the most improved trust in the country for reducing waiting times for planned care, securing £2 million in capital funding to support further improvements.
Shaun Davies MP said: “News on NHS waiting lists really matters. While there are clear signs of local progress, I know there are still serious challenges facing NHS services here in Telford. These are issues residents raise with me regularly, and I agree that we all deserve better.
“The NHS in Telford and across Shropshire are the services my family, friends and our wider community rely on every day. It’s also the NHS many of my friends work in. There is still a mountain to climb, but we must climb it. The alternatives proposed by some such as an insurance-based system like that in the US would be a disaster.
“There is a long way to go, but we are starting to see positive change. Listening to residents’ experiences is vital to ensuring I raise the right issues and keep pushing for the improvements our community needs.”
Shaun added that progress has been driven by record investment, real modernisation of the NHS, and the hard work and dedication of NHS staff, which he has seen firsthand during visits to local services.
