Telford MP Shaun Davies has spoken in Parliament recognising and highlighting the significant role that local churches play in supporting families and strengthening community life across Telford. During the speech, Shaun called for increased support for churches in their work.

Raising the matter in the House of Commons last week, Shaun paid tribute to the ongoing pastoral and practical support provided by parish churches in Telford, including the work of Rev Laura Lenander at Telford Minster, Rev Andy Ackroyd at St Michael’s Church, Rev Jo Farnworth at St Leonard’s Church, alongside many other volunteers across the area.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Shaun said: “In Telford, the Church plays a key role in supporting families – including by offering pastoral support or providing spaces and volunteers such as Rev Laura Lenander at Telford Minster, Rev Andy Ackroyd at St Michael’s Church, Rev Jo Farnworth at St Leonard’s Church and many others. What more will the Church do to play its part in the community and recognise the work of parish churches in Telford and across our country?”

Marsha De Cordova MP, Second Church Estates Commissioner, expressed her thanks for the work being done to support young people in Telford, highlighting the importance of churches as places of support and at the heart of the community. She also congratulated the Rev Jo Farnworth on her recent appointment as Independent Chair of the Pride in Place programme in South Telford.

Shaun added: “Parish churches are a key part of community life in Telford. They often step in and help bring people together at a local level and I will continue to push for greater recognition of all local faith groups and make sure they get the support they need to keep doing this important work for our town.”
