Telford MP selected to join cross party Parliamentary Scheme to Learn More About Emergency Services.

SD Shropshire Fire and Rescue

Shaun Davies Member of Parliament for Telford has been selected to a parliamentary scheme designed to give MPs first-hand experience of the vital work carried out by the emergency services and the challenges they face on the front line, which follows his graduation from the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme last year.

The scheme enables MPs to spend time with emergency service teams across the UK including police, fire and rescue, ambulance and other responders, to better understand their day-to-day responsibilities, operational pressures and the issues affecting staff and service delivery.

By taking part Shaun aims to ensure his work in Parliament is informed by real experience and the voices of those working to keep communities safe.

Shaun said: “Our emergency services do an extraordinary job, often in incredibly challenging circumstances. This scheme is a valuable opportunity to see their work up close, listen to their experiences, and better understand the pressures they face. What I learn will help inform my work in Parliament and my campaigning on behalf of our local emergency services here in Telford.”

Shaun has so far visited the London Fire Brigade and the Mountain Rescue Team in the Scottish Highlands observing operations and speaking directly with emergency service personnel, gaining insight into issues such as funding, staffing, training, wellbeing, and the increasing demands placed on services. This program compliments Shaun’s visits to emergency services here in Telford including recent visits to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, a patrol with West Mercia Police, and a visit with the Air Ambulance service.

The 12-month parliamentary scheme is part of a wider effort to strengthen understanding between policymakers and frontline services, ensuring that legislation and policy decisions reflect the realities faced by emergency workers and the communities they serve.
