Shaun Davies MP has welcomed the news from Telford & Wrekin Council that it will be utilising government funding to support pensioners in Telford, prioritising those just above the pension credit threshold.
Last week Telford & Wrekin Council announced that they would be providing nearly 6,000 pensioners across Telford and Wrekin with £100 in winter vouchers to support the borough’s most vulnerable residents. The local authority is now writing to pensioners who will be receiving the vouchers with further information.
Shaun commented: “I fully welcome the council’s decision to use this additional government funding to support pensioners in Telford, especially those just above the Pension Credit threshold. However, it’s crucial to remember that hundreds of pensioners who are eligible for Pension Credit still do not claim it, and I strongly encourage them to do so.
“On a national level, I am working with fellow MPs to expand of the eligibility criteria for the Winter Fuel Allowance, ensuring more people can access the vital support they need during the colder months.”
“Making sure every pensioner in Telford knows how to access the financial support and benefits they’re entitled to is so important. That’s why I’ve invited the council and other partners to join my community coffee morning later this month, providing residents with another opportunity to receive in-person support and guidance.”
