Telford’s MP visits local Army and Air Cadets to discuss Labour’s new ‘30 by 30’ campaign

Shaun Davies MP with a group of Dawley’s Air Cadets

Shaun Davies, Member of Parliament for Telford, paid a visit to the local cadets from D Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry at the Army Reserve centre recently.

This follows the Government’s announcement of a £70 million pound investment to deliver ’30 by 30’ campaign, which aims to boost cadet participation by 30% by 2030.

Shaun visited the cadets to discuss what they enjoyed most about being a part of the team, and improvements that could be made to make it even better, which in turn could boost signups.

On the visit, Shaun said “It was a great evening meeting with both the army and air cadets, they are an inspiring, confident group of young people.

They gave me great insight into how this funding will maximise their experiences and raise awareness for their squad in Dawley. I’m looking forward to seeing their journeys and how this government can support them”

Alistar Carns, minister for veterans and people, commented “Every young person deserves the chance to discover their potential, regardless of their postcode and family income.

The cadet experience doesn’t just build character – it transforms futures, helping young people build confidence, develop skills, and meet new people”

Local cadet groups provide young people with qualifications and valuable skills that can be used in all areas of life as well as making social connections with others of similar ages.

The West Midlands currently have 12,680 cadets, with the aim of boosting this by 30% by the year 2030, back by significant funding from the government.
