Shaun Davies met with local veterans and members of the Armed Forces community at a visit to The Christopher Turley Armed Forces Hub in Dawley on Monday

The visit was in follow up to Shaun working with partners including Telford & Wrekin Council, Telford Mind and Great Dawley Town Council to secure a £670,000 funding boost through Operation Valour, the Government’s national initiative to strengthen services for veterans and their families. Telford was announced in March as the only area in the West Midlands to receive this investment.

On Monday, Shaun visited the monthly Armed Forces Community Café at the hub where he spoke directly with ex-service personnel about their experiences and the difference the funding is set to make as support for veterans in Telford is extended. Shaun heard views on what more can be done to ensure veterans receive the right support now and in the future.

Shaun Davies MP said: “It is always very special to spend time at the Christopher Turley Armed Forces Hub and spend time with our veterans. It was encouraging to hear the positivity and ideas around this new funding and what it will mean for our local veterans. I’m proud to stand up for Telford and secure investment like this which will deliver real change for our community – supporting the men and women who have served our country with courage and sacrifice, and ensuring they are properly supported as they transition back into civilian life. But we won’t stop here. Our veterans and their families deserve nothing less than the very best support we can provide.”

Cllr Ben Carter, Mayor of Great Dawley, said: “Thank you to Shaun for visiting us today and taking the time to listen to our veterans. If you are a veteran in Telford, please do come along to these sessions.  The Veterans Café runs on the second and fourth Monday of every month and is a regular fixture in the diary- a welcoming space for a coffee, a chat, and support from people who understand.”
