Telford MP Shaun Davies has helped Telford Flyers BMX Club secure £4,000 of Community Pride Funding after the club reached out for support with essential maintenance and improvements to its track and facilities. The funding will provide long-term benefits for members and visitors throughout the year, helping the volunteer-led club maintain and enhance its facilities for regular coaching sessions, club events and regional BMX race rounds.
During a recent visit to the club in Dawley, Shaun met young riders and watched them put their skills to the test on the track. Telford Flyers provides regular coaching sessions for young people from across Telford and beyond, helping riders develop their confidence, fitness and competitive BMX skills. The club is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and qualified BMX coaches who work throughout the year to maintain the facility, support riders and organise events.
Telford Flyers has built a strong reputation within the BMX community, regularly hosting regional race rounds and club events as part of the BMX calendar. The club has also enjoyed significant recent success, recording the highest number of rider entries in the region so far this season despite strong competition from clubs across the Midlands. In addition, the club was last week recognised with a Sported Award for Outstanding Impact – Inspiring Young Leaders, acknowledging the success of its Youth Mentor Programme and the positive impact it has on young people both on and off the track.
After hearing about the club’s needs, Shaun worked with local partners to secure funding to support the required maintenance and improvements.
Shaun said: “Telford Flyers is a brilliant asset for our town, giving young people the chance to learn new skills, stay active and build confidence in a welcoming environment. I was really pleased to help secure this funding, which will support important maintenance and improvements to the track and facilities for the benefit of members and visitors throughout the year.
“The club has built an impressive reputation, regularly hosting regional race rounds and providing opportunities for riders of all ages to develop their skills. It’s fantastic to see the club achieving record rider participation this season and receiving national recognition through the Sported Award for Outstanding Impact – Inspiring Young Leaders. The volunteers and coaches who keep the club running do a fantastic job. Their dedication creates opportunities for young people, supports the next generation of riders and helps ensure Telford continues to be represented strongly within the BMX community.”
Loren Hughes, Telford Flyers BMX Club Secretary, said: “We are extremely grateful for the funding support, which has enabled us to carry out important maintenance and improvements to the track and facilities. As a volunteer-led club, investments like this make a real difference and help us continue providing opportunities for riders of all ages and abilities. Whilst we regularly host regional and club BMX events, we are particularly proud of the growth we have seen within the club this year, with Telford Flyers recording the highest rider entries in the region to date. This reflects the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, coaches, riders and families.
“We are also delighted to have recently received the Sported Award for Outstanding Impact – Inspiring Young Leaders in recognition of our Youth Mentor Programme. Supporting young people both on and off the track is at the heart of what we do, and this award highlights the positive impact that BMX and Telford Flyers can have within our community.”
“We would like to thank Shaun Davies, and everyone involved in helping secure the funding, as well as the volunteers who continue to give their time throughout the year to keep the club running and developing.”
