“For families and businesses across Telford, this Budget is about easing the pressure people are feeling today while investing in a better future for all of us. I know how hard many local families are working to make ends meet right now. That’s why the £100 energy payment for around 44,000 Telford households in Council Tax Bands A–D is particularly important – this is over 98% of properties in our town.
“Extending the 5p fuel duty cut and supporting local businesses with lower business rates will also help ease some of the pressure. But we must look beyond the immediate challenges. Investment in affordable homes, support for first-time buyers and backing British businesses are vital to creating opportunities for people here in Telford. The Budget will also support more social and affordable housing, giving Telford & Wrekin Council the funding and powers to build council homes for the first time since the 1990s, alongside investment to help housing associations build more homes for local people.
“We all know that with the war in Iran, tensions in the Middle East and an increasingly dangerous world, we face difficult times. But, as Britain has done for generations, we will get through them together.
“My priority is to make sure our town benefits from the measures announced today and gets its fair share of investment. This Budget is about giving people breathing space today and building a stronger future for Telford.”
