17-year-old Shayne Dawson, who became the first person to scale the Wrekin unaided in a Wheelchair, has been awarded with a Telford Community Champion Award by Member of Parliament for Telford, Shaun Davies.
Shaun Davies MP recently met with Shayne and his mum, to present him with the award and to celebrate just how brilliant his achievement is, all at the age of 16.
Two years ago, Shayne became paralysed from the chest down. Since then, he has continued to show incredible determination, proving that his disability will not stop him from taking on new challenges.
After deciding one day that he wanted to take on the Wrekin, Shayne set himself the challenge and went on to achieve something no one had done before.
Shayne commented “I’m going to keep proving you can achieve anything with a positive mind set.”
Claire, Shayne’s mum, added “Shayne is the most determined person you will ever meet and I’m so proud of him!”
Shaun Davies MP commented “Shayne’s achievement is absolutely incredible, and it was so great to be able to meet and chat with him.
“At just 16, Shayne has shown that with the right mindset and determination, you can achieve things you might never have thought possible. His attitude is inspiring, and I think we could all be a little bit more Shayne!”
“You should be so proud of yourself Shayne, and I am excited to see what you take on next.”
Shaun regularly presents Community Champion Awards to recognise people across Telford who have gone above and beyond for the town, whether through their achievements or the difference they make to others.
