Shaun’s September Update

Telford 6th opening

It has been another busy few months across Telford, both locally and in Westminster. As ever, one of the most important parts of my role as Telford’s MP is listening to residents. Whether it’s visiting a school, meeting a local business, speaking to a community group or helping someone with an individual issue, those conversations shape the work I do.

Looking back, I really enjoyed holding my first  ‘Tea in the Park’ in Dawley Park with Great Dawley Town Council and brilliant new local business Katcha Latte. Events like these are some of my favourite parts of the job. There is nothing quite like a proper face-to-face conversation, that’s why, as we approach the end of the year, I’ve got a number of opportunities coming up to meet with people across Telford over a cuppa. You can find details of upcoming events on my website.

I have now helped more than 13,000 Telford people with issues including housing, healthcare, education, employment, and pensions. Every issue is different, but behind every number is a fellow Telford resident who needs a helping hand, and I never take that responsibility lightly.

One of the highlights of the last few months was officially opening Telford 6th in the town centre. Having grown up in Telford and had to get two buses to college , I know how important it is for young people to have good education and opportunities close to good transport links. It was brilliant to see the new campus open its doors and meet the students. There is so much talent among our young people, and investing in them is investing in Telford’s future, we need to ensure they get the best start – there the future of our town and our country.

It has been a pretty memorable few months personally too, as I finally completed my skydive for Lingen Davies Cancer Support. Jumping from a plane was not something I ever expected to do, but I was incredibly proud to take part alongside Meg, Rajinder, Kayleigh, Samantha and Helen. Together, we raised more than £16,000 for the Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal, which is aiming to build a new cancer treatment centre at Princess Royal Hospital. This is a brilliant cause, one very close to my heart, so I am very grateful to everyone who donated and helped us raise such a fantastic amount.

Looking ahead, I’m really looking forward to joining the Operation Valour veterans’ coach trip to London to mark Remembrance Day. It will be a great opportunity to spend time with those who have served our country, hear their stories and come together ahead of Remembrance. I’m excited for the Christmas period in Telford too, and all the brilliant community events that come with it… I’ve just mentioned the C word!

In Westminster, I have continued to make the case for Telford, whether pushing for investment, supporting local businesses, improving opportunities for young people, or raising the issues residents bring to me directly. Telford deserves its fair share, and I will continue to make sure our town gets heard.

I also wanted to celebrate Telford being named as the best place in England to raise a family in a new national MoneySuperMarket study. Being born in Telford and now raising my own family here, I’m proud that what I have known for a long time is now being recognised nationally.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Being Telford’s Member of Parliament and representing the town where I was born and bred is a privilege I never take for granted. If you’d like to keep up to date with everything I’m doing, I send out my weekly update every Thursday evening. You can sign up through shaundavies.org.
