Two more brave local fundraisers have signed up to join Telford MP Shaun Davies as he prepares to take on a 10,000ft charity skydive this summer in support of the Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal.

Megan Wright and Rajinder Kaur Sahota will also leap from the plane alongside Shaun to help raise even more vital funds for the new Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford. The appeal is raising money to transform cancer care, ensuring patients across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales can access the very best treatment and support closer to home.

They join fellow fundraisers Kayleigh Parsons and Helen Walker, who have also signed up for the challenge, with all four now preparing for the jump this summer.

Shaun has already raised more than £4,000 towards his skydive fundraising target and hopes that more people will get behind the team as they take on the challenge to support local cancer services.

Megan Wright from Telford said: “Taking on a skydive from 10,000 feet is definitely one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever signed up for, but knowing it’s for such an important cause makes it completely worthwhile.

“The Sunflower Appeal means a great deal to me personally. Watching my mum go through breast cancer has shown me just how important accessible, high-quality cancer care and support is for patients and their families. The new cancer centre will make a huge difference to so many people across Telford and Shropshire, and I’m proud to be doing my small part to help make it a reality.

“If jumping out of a plane helps raise awareness and vital funds, then it’s a challenge I’m more than happy to take on!”

The Sunflower Appeal is a £5 million campaign to establish the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at PRH. As Telford’s first dedicated cancer centre, it will double the capacity for chemotherapy treatment across the region and significantly reduce the need for patients to travel to Shrewsbury for essential care.

Shaun added: “A huge thank you the group for stepping up to take on this challenge with me. The more people who join us, the more money we can raise for an incredible cause. Telford is my home, and no one should have to travel long distances for cancer treatment after already facing the challenges that come with a diagnosis. This new centre will bring life-changing care closer to home for thousands of local people. Lingen Davies supported my own nan, Betty, and I know first-hand the difference the charity makes. That’s why I’m proud to support the appeal and help raise funds for this vital new facility.”

Claire Purcell, Head of Community Fundraising for the charity, thanked Shaun Davies MP for his commitment to supporting the Sunflower Appeal and said: “We’re tremendously grateful to Shaun for raising the profile of our £5million appeal, not just here in Telford but throughout the county, the region, and even on a national scale. Not only has he professionally committed to supporting our fundraising but he is now personally showing his drive to help us deliver this Centre by 2029.

“It’s a brave soul that takes to the skies for charity and I thank him and those who sponsor him in this birthday endeavour!”
