Telford’s Future: Shaun Davies MP Announces Telford Jobs and Futures Fair

Telford MP

Shaun Davies has announced a new Jobs and Futures Fair that will bring together
local employers, training providers and support organisations to connect young
people with jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities.

Taking place
on Friday 6th November from 10am until 2pm at The Anstice, Madeley
the Telford Jobs and Futures Fair will give young people from across Telford
the chance to meet employers face-to-face, explore career opportunities and get
practical advice about their next steps.

The event is
being hosted by Telford MP Shaun Davies in partnership with the UK Government,
with the event being made possible through the support of Telford College and
Pride in Place.

The event will
give young people the opportunity to:

  • Meet
local employers and find out about current job vacancies.
  • Discover
apprenticeship, training and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Get
practical advice about careers and entering the workplace.
  • Speak
directly to employers about different career paths and the skills they are
    looking for.
  • Find
out about the support available to help them move into employment or
    further training.

Aimed at young
people considering their next step, including those looking for their first
job, an apprenticeship, further training or a new career direction, the event
will also give Telford businesses an opportunity to showcase the careers
available within their organisations and meet potential future employees.

Shaun Davies
MP said: “Getting young people into good jobs, apprenticeships and training is
vital to the future of Telford. That is why I am delighted to be bringing
together our local employers, training providers and support organisations for
the Telford Jobs and Futures Fair. This is about putting young people directly
in front of the people who can offer them their next opportunity. Whether
someone is looking for their first job, considering an apprenticeship or simply
unsure about what they want to do next, there will be people at this event who
can help.

“This event
would not be possible without the support of our partners and sponsors. Telford
College and Pride in Place have played a hugely important role in helping us
make this event happen. By working together, we can make sure young people in
Telford can access the opportunities, advice and support available to them,
while helping local businesses connect with the talented people they need for
the future.”

The Jobs and
Futures Fair forms part of Shaun Davies MP’s wider work to support local people
into employment and improve access to skills, training and career
opportunities. Together, the partners are working to create a direct link
between Telford’s young people and the employers, skills and opportunities that
can help them build their future locally.

Sarah Davies, Executive Director of Employer Engagement and
Partnerships at Telford College, said the Jobs and Futures Fair was a chance to
help young people into work while helping local employers close the skills gaps
they face.

“We speak to employers regularly
and many tell us they can’t find people with the skills they need. The Jobs and
Futures Fair gives young people the chance to meet businesses that are
recruiting now, and many are happy to train the right person. In the longer
term, tackling youth unemployment means training young people for the jobs that
exist here. That’s why we work in partnership with local businesses to shape
our courses, and why our Business Solutions team helps companies take on
apprentices. We’re proud to sponsor the fair and our team will be there on the
day, so come and talk to us.”

Revd
Prebendary Jo Farnworth, Independent Chair, South
Telford Pride in Place added:
“Having access to the right job, training
or apprenticeship can make a real difference to people’s lives, giving them a
sense of purpose, fulfilment and wellbeing.

“Pride in
Place is delighted to support this Jobs Fair, helping young people from
Woodside, Brookside and Sutton Hill connect with employment, apprenticeships,
training and education opportunities. It will also support local businesses
with their recruitment needs, raise awareness of skills pathways and help
strengthen the local economy.

“Ultimately,
this is about creating opportunities that work for local people, enabling them
to shape a stronger, more prosperous future for their communities.”
