Shaun Davies MP is calling on Telford & Wrekin Council for a new Government-backed Youth Hub to be located in Telford Town Centre, following the Government’s announcement of plans to deliver 80 Youth Hubs across the UK, including one for Telford & Wrekin.
More than 30% of Telford’s population is under the age of 24, underlining the importance of ensuring young people have clear, accessible and joined-up support to help them succeed in education, employment and training.
The proposed Youth Hub would bring together Jobcentre services, local council support, employers and training providers in one accessible location. The aim is to make it easier for Telford’s young people to get the right help at the right time, particularly as they take their first steps into work or further education.
Shaun Davies MP said: “I speak regularly with young people, teachers, parents and businesses across Telford, and one message comes through clearly: we need to do more to make sure every young person knows where to go for the right support at the right time.
“Whether it’s choosing further education, finding an apprenticeship, or stepping into their first job, those decisions can be daunting. A Youth Hub in the heart of our Town would bring everything together in one place, making support simpler, more visible and more joined-up.
“I see first-hand the ambition and potential of our young people when I visit schools across Telford, they are full of talent and ideas, but we need to make sure the right doors are open for them. Securing a Youth Hub for Telford would be a real investment in their future and in the future of our town.”
The new Government funded Youth Hub model is designed to provide integrated support under one roof, helping young people access employment services, training providers, local authority advice and direct links to employers.
