Shaun Davies, Member of Parliament for Telford, recently presented 10-year-old Jacob with a Telford Community Champion Award, recognising his incredible achievements in golf and the inspiration he is providing to other young people.
At the age of 10, Jacob has already achieved many incredible awards in the sport. He has represented the county at Under-14 level, won both the Shifnal Golf Club Nett Championship and the Par 3 Nett Championship over 36 holes, and reached the regional finals of the prestigious Faldo Series after winning his age category.
Shaun met with Jacob and his family to hear more about his love of golf, his ambitions for the future and the practice he puts in to continue developing his game.
Shaun commented: “It was a fantastic day meeting Jacob and hear about his love of golf and the immense work that he is doing. To have achieved all that he has at his age is a fantastic accomplishment, and Jacob should be incredibly proud of everything he has achieved.
“I was delighted to present him with a Community Champion Award, celebrating just how much of an inspiration he is to other young people. Seeing young people in Telford finding something they love and working hard to achieve their goals, fills me with immense pride.
“A huge well done to Jacob – I can’t wait to hear more about his achievements in the future.”
Kirsty, Jacob’s Mum, commented “At just 10 years old, Jacob is quickly making a name for himself as one of Shropshire’s brightest young golfing talents. Playing from the yellow tees throughout the season, Jacob has continued to challenge himself against longer courses and stronger competition while steadily lowering his handicap through hard work and dedication.
“Away from tournaments, Jacob spends countless hours practising every aspect of his game. His commitment, determination and love for golf have earned him the respect of coaches, fellow competitors, and supporters alike. With the ultimate ambition being to one day compete at the highest level of the sport as a professional golfer. While he knows there is still a long journey ahead, he is committed to learning, improving and embracing every opportunity that comes his way.
“With the support of his family, coaches and local golf community, Jacob hopes to continue his development and inspire other young people to follow their dreams through hard work, perseverance, and a passion for sport.”
The Telford MP regularly presents outstanding individuals and groups with a Community Champion Award to recognise the inspiring contribution they make to Telford. Recent Community Champions include volunteers from West Mercia Search and Rescue, Telford Town Park volunteer Colin, and Sandra, who retired after 30 years of service at Sainsbury’s.
