Shaun Davies, Member of Parliament for Telford, recently presented volunteers from West Mercia Search and Rescue with a Telford Community Champion Award, recognising their incredible commitment to supporting local communities across Telford and the wider area.
Made up entirely of volunteers, West Mercia Search and Rescue provides vital emergency support, assisting police and other emergency services in locating vulnerable missing people. The team also supports communities during major incidents and adverse weather, giving countless hours of their own time to help keep others safe. The group also run free sessions on water safety and basic lifesaving skills, helping people understand the risks and what to do in an emergency.
Shaun commented: “West Mercia Search and Rescue is a brilliant example of what community spirit looks like in Telford. Their volunteers give up their time, often at short notice and in challenging conditions, to help people when they need it most. Their dedication to supporting and protecting residents makes a real difference, and this award is a small way of recognising everything they do.
“These awards are about shining a light on the brilliant people and organisations that go above and beyond to make Telford the town it is. A huge thank you to everyone at West Mercia Search and Rescue for their dedication and service.”

The Telford MP regularly presents outstanding individuals and groups with a Community Champion Award to recognise the valuable contribution they make to the town and its residents.
